It's because they all think they found the ONE WEIRD TRICK that makes Communism work in the real world. Lenin said it needed a vanguard party. Trotsky thought there needed to be permanent revolution in all capitalist countries. Mao thought that it would have to be combined with Chinese nationalism to function.
