Why was the Korean war such a fucking mess?
Almost as many countries were involved in it as the second world war.

It was a War backed by the UN, and the war in which the US learnt not to declare wars.
Why was the war didn't depressed the American as much as Vietnam War?

It wasnt supposed to be: initially it was limited to a local mess.
And then the UN for the first (and only) time backed a Security Action, thereby taking many member states to accompany the Americans to hurl back NK.
The Invasion of NK however prompted the Soviet Union to be more fully involved, and China to send troops to bolster the beleaguered NK forces.
What followed was a stalemate because nobody was willing to escalate shit outside of Korea and therefore they had to negotiate it.

Because Vietnam was a bigger fuckup than Korea.
>>2959415
Because the U.S wasn't willing to escalate the war like in Vietnam. Once China committed the army, they kind of backed off

>Because the U.S wasn't willing to escalate the war like in Vietnam.
Other way around: the US wasn't willing to escalate Vietnam like in Korea.
>Once China committed the army, they kind of backed off
No. After the UN got BTFO back towards the South, they consolidated and those fuckers went at each other inflicting fuckloads of casualties, with China getting the worst of it.
Except it was still a stalemate.

People didn't feel like it snuck up on them. Norks attack, shit gets real, troops ship in from all over. With Vietnam you had a years long period of incremental escalation, until one day you hear on the news that there's half a million Americans in Vietnam and you don't understand why. It feels like something is being hidden from you.

>No
Yes, once the UN coalition couldn't conquer North Korea, they began to negotiate after they defended South Korea. That's backing off, considering the U.S never showed their final form
