When did looting and raping stop being perks of joining up with an Army?
Once that was the main reason you joined up, to loot the enemy of his stuff and rape his women.
Now you can't do either without being prosecuted by your own country.
When did that change?

>Now you can't do either without being prosecuted by your own country.
You can if the platoon doesnt say shit.

>When did that change?
I would say when propaganda became so powerful and all-reaching

Nationalism. The main reason why people went to war is "serving fatherland" since nationalism became a thing. Everyone who objected was shunned or even persecuted as a traitor.
Since wars now were based on (in theory) idealistic reasons, there was no need for a material incentive. In fact, this was also the reason why armies went lengths to stamp out the uncontrolled looting and raping.

Rape was a pretty big part of the Eastern Front in WWII
Wasn't an "official" perk, but rape on that scale can't happen without the officers turning a blind eye, at the very least

Part of it was that armies weren't "professional" in the sense of a regular salary. Your payment was whatever you could loot.
My understanding is that the professionalization of militaries made the need to loot a lot lower, so during the Renaissance/Enlightenment.

Roman Army or European armies od 18the century were salaried professionals, yet they looted.
My vague sense is that the major developments in logistics happened between the 30 years war and the Napoleonic Wars. Some googling supports this- https://www.usna.edu/Users/history/abels/hh381/Medieval%20Logistics.htm
There are many reasons for this-
1. Armies became too big to live off the land.
2. Looting is deleterious to the discipline that armies are starting to try to instill in troops--Maurice of Nassau had invented military drill at the beginning of the century.
3. States are becoming more administratively and financially sophisticated, so why cause famines and alienate the populace by stealing all their food when you're capable of feeding the army without such disruptions?
4. States are also using that sophistication to build canals and improve roads, making bulk transport more economical.
Didn't the Red Army rape and lopt Berlin pretty hard? Plus there was Nanking earlier in the war. The looting probably stopped there but there were plenty of rapes in Vietnam.
Plus let's face it, rape and loot is probably still the main reason why people are joing ISIS.

Well, not really.
It's more of "Young men forced to choose between doing nothing and dying OR killing some heathens then dying"

Professional armies of the 18th century.

it is still
The yugoslav wars were full of raping and looting.

>he takes loot rape burn literally
Rape meant violence but over time it began associated with the non consensual sex of a man and a woman
Also you joined an army for pay in Roman times, feudal obligations in medieval, pay in renaissance and enlightenment, nationalism in Victorian and pre-post modern war, job again in post modernism
It changes when you recognise other people as your own and the state can easily finance war
you can still rape women if you are an american soldier stationed overseas and you get to loot the american taxpayer everyday.
idk about other countries though
