What went wrong with Spain and Portugal? Why are they so irrelevant these days? Being a former empire that fell from grace is one thing, but Portugal and Spain barely matter even in their own region. Whenever European politics is the subject, it's always about Britain, Germany, Russia, and sometimes France. You'd think that there would be some residual prestige propping up the Iberian countries a little, but no, they're about as important as Finland or Serbia or Slovakia. How did they fall so much?
Pic unrelated

Jesus Christ that pic. Imagine if a woman had a vagina like that naturally.
> How did they fall so much?
Who knows? Could be anything.
They didnt make good successful colonies

It's the Lord's punishment for abandoning the truth and joining Satanic revolutionaries.
What's with anglos and their obsession with being "important"? Spain and Portugal are all right countries, people are generally happy and live long lives. Who gives a fuck if average joe in the US doesn't think much about them?
>>2936098
Spain is fine.
>>2936116
How is
>bad times produce good men
Relevant to my post in any way besides being a meme as well?
Far Right Dictatorships totally works
That´s why.
>>2936124
bad times don't produce good men, just prompt the few that there are into getting creative
>>2936123
Holy fuck. Cringe
colonial + economic + revolutionary + war reasons. You can write a book on why Spain fell out, expecting anything more than a basic understanding is deluded. Read more if you actually want to know, it's a ton of factors, which are debatable

kek i love the dedication man
>>2936474
They never were. For starters, they were always to dependant on slaves (basically free labor) and exploration resources. Also, Catholicism banned interest until the 18th century and the Iberians followed that until it was too late.
>>2936512
Did the medicis not charge interest? Also that must have been heaven for Spain's citizens even if it didn't amass massive wealth for the elites.
>>2936527
Yes, which is why everything was so late to blossom
>>2936039
it happens, what is mongolia now? but a unimportant piece of land
Poor education is one reason, even today Spain and Portugal do not have 100% literacy. That's unthinkable to me.
>>2937051
With all the niggers and towelheads they take in are you surprised?

>According to a study conducted in late April by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute of Literacy, 32 million adults in the U.S. can't read. That's 14 percent of the population. 21 percent of adults in the U.S. read below a 5th grade level, and 19 percent of high school graduates can't read.
>Spain Adult Literacy Rate is at 98.11%, compared to 98.09% last year.
>The basic literacy rate of the Portuguese population is 95.7% (97.1% male, 94.4% female).
Not that shocking anon

Because of their Papist shenanigans.

Why was the spawn of Philip V so fucking useless?
>>2936039
Spain and Portugal were always shit.
They were just lucky that they had the perfect geographic position for colonizing, and even then they didn't manage to keep their Empires for long
>>2938658
>even then they didn't manage to keep their Empires for long

i think only a very few countries in the world have a real perfect 100% literacy
there are almost always outcast parts of society that still have this problem

Truth
>>2938658
Portugal had the longest running colonial empire of Europe. It only ended in 1999 when Macau was given to China. They were also the last to leave Africa in 1974.
>>2938658
Spain have been an egemonic, undefeatable power for at least one century
also I wouldn't call a country with such architectonic wonders "shit"
>>2936039
Because spain and portugal never had the population to sustain an empire. Spain was only relevant by sitting on a mountain of silver bigger than all the currency in europe at the time while portugal never was as powerful as any of the other important powers of europe. Not only that but both were held back from industrialitzation by reactionaries during the xviii and xix centuries.
>>2937095
>19 percent of high school graduates can't read.
This sounds like a joke. Can people graduate high school in the US without reading? Does that mean they can't write either? How do they do exams?

The U.S. has a higher amount of blacks, hillbillies and Mexican squatters than Europe and even historically marginalized communities have had substantial efforts made in the instruction and preservation of regional languages. Communist countries are known for faring well in literacy rates also. Bolivia under its ideologically socialist government is reported to have gotten rid of illiteracy for the most part. Illiteracy in Europe is probably most prevalent in immigrant and Gypsy communities and probably due in large part to lack of proficiency in languages other than their first.

Argentina was very sucesfull, like it had a middle class and all in the 50's or so...
