Why are sources on the old Iraqi army so hard and rare to find? why are accounts/stories/plans/maps/order of battles so few?

>Iraqi army
>plans
Arab armies are so secretive that a corporal doesn't know who his squad leader is.
Just submit a public information request at saddam.com. Or ask an ISIS emir, most of them are ex Iarqi officers.

Do you speak/read Arabic? That's probably your problem.

There's a bunch of sources in Arabic and Interviews
One Iraqi general named Ra'ad Majid Al-Hamdani wrote a book about the 2003 invasion and 1991 gulf war called "before history leaves us", he also gave several interviews about all the wars he was in and they were really detailed and described alot of small stuff about the war with the Iranians, the war with Americans, the reality of some war crimes in Kuwait, the motives of Iraqi military plans and decisions, the general state of things at the time (Refusing or defying orders, even if they were stupid, could cause you to be accused of treason, which he received and got relieved in 1991 for opposing Saddam's orders to spread the Iraqi army along the south border, while he advocated for urban warfare instead, but he was re-assigned later) he has many interesting anecdotes too. American tanks driving past his HQ in 2003, running into a group of Kuwaiti soldiers in the capital in 1991 and telling them to retreat (they were so shocked at the invasion that they cooperated with him and retreated), trying to sneak into Kuwait as a truck drivers to recon the place properly, using tourist maps during the invasion of Kuwait due to how shit intelligence was, meeting with Saddam in his palace while American tanks were visible in the distance, etc.
