Why do people think it's acceptable to joke about the Holocaust?

I dunno Schlomo, it's almost as if deconstructing everything western civ considered good and pure via post modernism and critical theory turns everyone into amoral sociopaths or something :^)

At it's core, almost all humor is based off of making fun of something (or someone). Usually the more controversial and negative the topic, the funnier the joke.

I think the reason so many people joke about the holocaust is because it's so shockingly absurd that the only acceptable reaction apart from mute consternation is to crack a joke about it
And then there's the ones who think it's funny to pass gas

Because a very characteristic human reaction to horror is humor. It's not done to minimize the brutality, but as a way of trying to escape being victimized from it. I've quite literally heard nasty holocaust jokes in Tel Aviv nightclubs, and I've laughed at them.
