That camo was designed for the mountains of Afghanistan, and it actually works very well in that specific location. However, it looks utterly retarded anywhere else. Unfortunately, nobody told the Department of Defense that they buy an the army uniform for a specific location without forcing everything else to change as well.

The uniform retardation is one of the reasons I wound up NOT joining the military after high school. It's a symptom of institutional criminal incompetence/corruption that is beyond appalling and I do not intend to die for it.

The US Military has been in a state of inexorable decline since 2000 and no one, not even President Trump or "Mad Dog" Mattis can fix it at this point.

Expect the next American war to be a devastating defeat, maybe even the one that finally does us in.

lol wut? First of all the camo works great in deserts like Iraq or Afghanistan, where the US has had two major conflicts since 2001.

I don't really get the "inexorable decline" comment either, the military has always been a shitshow but it's also the most effective shitshow out there. Which in the most basic terms, means it is dominant. More to the point, the Army specifically can be fucked up all it wants so long as it is backed up by USN and USAF logistical and air support. The DoD is very, very, very good at this (moreso than any other nation on earth) which is why the US military is so effective despite it being an adult kindergarden.

(also I will point out that most of the failures in the mideast were due to civilian institutions like the Iraqi provisional government not military ones as was the case in Vietnam)

But this has always been the case.

Military gear was always based not only on functionality, but also on the dominant culture of the time.

After colonization by the Industrialized West, everyone of course follows their way of war. But before, you had Europeans wearing the same kinds of armor, Middle East and Central Asians riding on Iranic/Steppenig shit, Indo-Persian armor in Persia and India, and Chinese getups in Mainland East Asia.

USMC desert and woodland uniforms (US Navy personnel attached to Marines get them too) are actually pretty good, enough that other countries use it as a standard. I heard from combat veterans that they would mix the two uniforms together to break up their profile at the distance Afghanistan. The problem is that the Corps is incredibly petty about who gets to use it and went ahead and stamped USMC all over so the Army can't use it. Instead of being a bunch of children about it, we should've shared the cammies with the Army. That being said, I think the Marines could hold up their end of the deal in the next real war we haev to fight

Nah, I'll stick with the old aesthetics. The shit we made during the late-Cold War was intended for an actual war and was built to last and be economically feasible to produce on a mass scale if necessary.

Just about everything post-2000 except maybe for drones is either too expensive to produce on a large scale or is overpriced garbage made to enrich contractors above all else.

t. google how bad IOTVs are compared to their predecessor, the IBA, and they're several times more expensive.

>>2917393

Both are shit and were completely unnecessary.

We should've just stuck with the BDU. Issuing multiple camouflage uniforms for different services is literally something no other remotely competent military on this planet does and with good reason. It fucks the logistics system and can create confusion on the battlefield.

t. start of the Civil War. Friendly fire incidents were rampant because the state militias were all using different equipment, including blue uniforms in the Confederate Army and grey ones in the Union Army.

The US Military basically hit its apex in 1991 with the Gulf War and has steadily declined since then.

t. father was in the US Army during the Gulf War and rejoined following 9/11 with the intent of serving for the duration of the War on Terror. He left by 2005 because of his immense disappointment at how the Bush administration was running the military into the ground.

>>

>The US Military basically hit its apex in 1991

That's fair.

There was a big investment in SOF in the 90's, but it was at the expense of the conventional force, which got decimated under Clinton.

When the GWOT kicked off in 01', everything started going down hill as congress allowed the senior leader scum to lower the standards to meet recruiting goals because they were too fucking cheap to pay people what they deserved to volunteer in a time of war.

They could easily build recessed areas in the deck off to the side that the sailors could walk down into so as to be below the deck level in case of an errant bird. They could also build some kind of bunker system attached to the super structure off to the side to provide them with some protection. The bottom line is that there shouldn't be anybody on the fucking deck that could be ran the fuck over by an errant multi-ton aircraft trying to land on a moving runway.

Even lowly sailors deserve better than to get killed doing something stupid because their fucking leaders are morons.

I think another problem that's developed since then is the assumption that a war can be entirely waged from the air. When people think of the Gulf War, they tend to think all about the smart bombs and stealth bombers and not the fact that planners like Schwarzkopf were willing and ultimately had to commit massive numbers of ground troops to force the Iraqis out (albeit after they were severely weakened by weeks of airstrikes).

We put this rather naive theory into practice in the Balkans, early Afghanistan, Iraq 2003, and later Libya and it has proven foolhardy at best. Huge numbers of Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters, including most of their leadership were able to escape into Pakistan in 2001 in part because US commanders were unwilling to commit ground forces and instead attempted to rely exclusively on the rather unreliable native Afghans (for understandable reasons, after all, they were not the ones attacked on 9/11, we were) augmented by US air power. While the USAF has impressive, their effectiveness is hindered by poor weather, being forced to operate miles over the battle space, and a limited fuel supply. Problems a division of US paratroopers entrenched on the border would not have had.

I don't understand the shit this got. Japan knows the three big ones trying to get the portal are the Chinese, the Americans and the Russians. It sounds like a correct guess.

Its almost as if people post things that aren't entirely serious on a Mongolian goat herding market.

Cam you actually prove beyond your conjecture that there is an actual significant chance for that to even happen

I better be a living camoed cunt with a kevlar pot than be a dead one clad in the most epic leather armour

Anon I swear if I ever make a war film there will be an infantry officer in it who says and dreams this exact thing.

White is the summer uniform. The same applies to the PLAN, and most navies around the world.

Gonna paw him, claw him, saw him in half
When he cries out for mercy we'll just laugh
Beat him, heat him, eat him for dessert, yeah
Roast him gently so the flames won't hurt

Dark grey can can work in just about any setting. Camos are easier to train the sight on once they are discerned. As soon as the first camo was made other armies felt the need to implement it in order to feel safe and up to date just like with medium calibers and pistol grips on rifles. A plain dark green fatigue probably works just as well as a woodland pattern.

CADPAT is alright, but since the Canuck government are a bunch of pantywaists who can't bear the thought of their citizens having fun, they've barred CADPAt from being sold on the civilian market.

This isn't new, late WWI battle dress uniforms all looked the same sans helmets.

these motherfuckers get paid billions year and they can't give their troops some sort of face/neck/anywhere besides the vest BP armor. They obviously can when they want to spend it on special forces, but then they send these kids out with nothing but vests.
