Reading about this German-Polish dispute it's always puzzling how post-1918 Germans were so obsessed with those eastern lands.
I mean yeah sure, nationalism and all that, but they should have realized how unrealistic those claims were. In fact Germany become more ethnically homogeneous by giving up those lands. Most up it was rural and poor, except Danzig which wasn't even given to Poland but made a separate state. Those land were always considered a backwater at the edge of Germany.
Even "anti-Nazi" Stauffenberg wanted to keep those lands under German rule, even Posen.

And they were surprised and outraged that in 1918-19 Poles took lands that used to be part of their country and had at least some Polish population.
As if human history started in 1800 and Poles just popped into existence in 1918.

Yes, but the trains were operated by the PKP (Polish company) and from time to time there introduced some limits, like how long and how often train with military supplies can cross the Polish lands. Also German national pride got involved.

Germany paid a lot of money for the trains. there was a time in the 30's were almost 15% of Polish budget was paid by Germans, in exchangeable currency - usually French or American.

In the 1936 the Poles frozen all the traffic for 3 months because Germans stopped paying - they said it was because they run out of currency, which wasn't that far from truth. After the crisis the traffic resumed, but on a much smaller scale.
