How did these guys in bumfuck Japan became the most advanced group in pre-history of the world?
>>

>Make nice pots.
>Advanced
Sure helped them when the Yayoi came over, huh?
>>

Probably. Japs have 50% Jomon paternal lines. Korean settlers were very impressed by them it seems and happily offered them their daughters. Very stark contrast to how things worked out in the rest of the world.

Specialist labor is a sign of advanced society. Elaborate decorative pottery like this is only possible with a great deal of practice and training, which means they had both advanced agricultural practices capable of sustaining a surplus population not engaged in subsistence living and that they also had an abundance of raw materials needed for manufacturing pottery. They would need enough not only to produce pots as luxuries but also to train new pot makers and experiment with new designs. This is a sign of considerable prosperity, that you can devote so much effort and resources into something far removed from survival.

Did they regress back to hunter gatherers in 2000 bc?

The Jomon culture began in 10000 bc, so it probably was the first agricultural sedentary culture ever in the world, that's incredible, but by 2000 bc they became hunter gatherers again, the fuck?

Social upheaval? Lack of coherent tradition to hold society together? With stuff that long ago we can only guess at what happened. It's pre-history so the archaeological record is all we really have.

THE JOMON LIVED IN HUTS, WERE FISHERS, AND HUNTERS, THEIR CLOTHING WAS MADE FROM BARK, AND/OR ANIMAL SKIN.

HOW WERE THE JOMON "THE MOST ADVANCED IN PREHISTORIC WORLD", ACCORDING TO YOU?

These pics come from around 1200 BC which was contemporaneous with the Sanxingdui and Shang cultures of China. I think Sanxingdui and Shang art is more visually interesting and more technologically advanced because it's cast in bronze rather than made of pottery.

The Jomon period is so long as to be meaningless.

Jomon weren't agricultural or sedentary in 1000 BC

Not sure when the first traces of agriculture are found on the peninsula, but probably less than 4000 BC.

Their foods were based not on grains but on chestnuts. They did plant chestnut trees. But it's not good enough to support a large population.

Is this really an original statue or a replica? Looks too well preserved.

Maybe they were advanced because they were Caucasoid and white
>>

They were not
>Mark J. Hudson of Nishikyushu University posits that Japan was settled by a proto-Mongoloid population in the Pleistocene who became the Jōmon, and that their features can be seen in the Ainu and Ryukyuan people.[14] The Jomon share some physical characteristics, such as relatively abundant body hair, with Caucasians, but anthropological genetics shows them to derive from a completely separate genetic lineage from that of Europeans.[51] Jomon shows closest genetic relationship to Southeast Asians rather than western Eurasian people.[52]

Jomon had the largest "non-agriculturalist" societies on earth in the middle Jomon period. Of course they were agricultural, moreso horticultural and aboricultural through intentional tending of tree and crop stands.

The Pacific Northwest Nations (https://www.google.com/amp/amp.livescience.com/57316-ancient-underwater-garden-discovered.html) and California (Tending the Wild by Kat Anderson) were much the same.

But also just as all the regions where agriculture as westerners defined occurred where they heavily exploited and modified environments where their main food sources arose before cultigens (modified plants that cannot exist outside of agricultural settings).

Barkcloth is not inferior especially looking at the birch bark garments of Ainu today, it's just bast fibres. Cotton is not what an advanced people makes.
