"All men are created equal"
What should I read to fully understand the metaphysical implications of this? Is there a philosopher that explains this well?
I'm not quite sure what exactly it means either. Is it saying all men have the same capacity, or that all men should be treated as equals regardless of their capacity? If it's the latter, is there a rational justification for it? The only one I can think of is "do unto others as you would like them to do unto you". If it's the former, then I guess this begs the question as to what "capacity" means.

I don't get why the people that disagree with bigots just point out that they're justifying utilitarianism. I mean, even if you could argue that a race of people can build civilizations or whatever the fuck and others can't, it doesn't actually mean anything if you're not utilitarian. Every able-minded human being is capable of love, care and ethical behavior; which is more important in my opinion.
