The war was ~9 months long and they generally had no time to arm and train any meaningful amount of new forces. The only forces Jordan had was the Arab Legion, which was made of 4 regiment-sized brigades for a total of 10,000 men that had to man ~200km of front against Israel. The whole war was basically a series of skirmishes and small-scale offensives. There weren't any engagements with anything bigger than a brigade.

Exactly. There are some settlements also where the land had been previously purchased by Jews prior to 1948 and once Jordan invaded they labeled the privately owned Jewish land as "enemy territory." To make a long story short: Britain divided the land between the Arabs and the Jews. The Arabs got the lion's share, including all of what is now the state of Jordan. This was not enough for them.

All the Jews living in what became Jordan were expelled by the Jordanian Government. They were absorbed into Israel. All the Arabs living in what became Israel should have been absorbed by Jordan... but Israel threw a wrench in it when they offered any Arabs who were willing to live in peace citizenship. Some took them up on the offer and were granted citizenship. This is one of the reasons why to this day Israel's population is ~25% Arab, who live better than Arabs in the rest of the Middle East.

Approximately 700,000 Arabs did not take them up on the offer and either packed up and vacated to make way for invading Arab armies (to move back once the Arabs exterminated the Jews), or were expelled in the aftermath after their side LOST the war.
