>be surrounded by 2 massive oceans
>get invaded and almost totally genocided over the next century

What went wrong?

Dirty white apes sailed over and brought disease and rape.

Lack of domesticated animals and large settlements which meant they had little immunity to infectious viruses from the old world

>have a bunch of horses
>kill them all

what did they mean by this?

They were idiot savages. Their loss was nothin' personal, kid . . .

Europeans did a solid job forming alliances with some tribes against others and it was stupid hard for strong/capable native leaders to keep their power for long...so natives never had a shot at organizing large confederations to oppose European expansion.

No work multipliers such as beasts of burden, ESPECIALLY HORSES, lack of metallurgy, poor economic and technological development and transfers due to the lack of multiple river valley civilizations in contact and trading together.

Honestly, the fact that they even cobbled together two major empires is pretty amazing and a testament to human ingenuity.

Well I mean not everyone domesticated the horse and it took a while to do so. Horses were wiped out fairly early around 10,000 years ago and they didn't get domesticated in the other hemishpere until around 3000 BCE. Americans also had camels too, would have been great if they were domesticated.

White man came, across the sea.
He brought us pain, and misery.
He killed our tribes, killed our creed.
He took our game, for his own need.

We fought him hard, we fought him well.
Out on the plains, we gave him hell.
But many came too much for Cree,
Oh will we ever be set free?

>Natives in North America
Most of them were too proud to assimilate and start from the bottom again.

Depends on what natives you are talking about.
A lot of them did not understand the idea of crop rotation, so they fucked their fields to exhaustion and then had to move on which meant permeant settlements were few and far between.

Those that did have crop rotation, and an advanced government such as the Iroquis after the Great Peace bled their nation and neighbors dry in fruitless Mourning Wars to replenish their clans leading to a century of constant warfare. Inability to cope with a commercial system, the natives inland such as the Mohawk tribes paid massive amounts for Wampan beads with the Dutch trades because of their perceived rarity, meanwhile the dutch had set up native manufacturers on Long Island that used metallic tools to increase production of the beads.

Horses in the new world went extinct around the same time they were barely being domesticated in the old world

The question is why did the civilized Euro invaded their lands and genocided them?

that you repeat neckbeards' agenda despite being able to read and having access to google

>While the extinctions around the late Pleistocene saw the end to mammoths, giant sloths, horses and the like in the Americas, the extinction rate of North American mammals actually reached its highest level some six million years ago, resulting in the demise of about 60 genera. Several species of horses were driven to extinction at that time.

>Not so long ago, there was no evidence of an overlap between North American horse extinction and the arrival of humans, let alone evidence of their hunting horses. There is now clear evidence that mankind hunted North American horses but were they doing so in numbers that made a difference? It is a question that may never be answered. Evidence also suggests horses were originally domesticated, not just for riding, but also to provide food, including milk.

>“It’s hard to see this as one of those things where a single piece of evidence will make it obvious what happened,” Scott Wing, a paleobiologist at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History, told National Geographic. “The phenomenon that people are trying to explain is not something that happened in one place at one time. It happened across the globe, at different times on different continents. I think that there are clearly multiple factors involved.”

Anarchy.

I've heard that tribesmen were not even obligated to follow the chief's orders.

Like whites today, the natives sold each other out for their own personal gain.

Tribes tried to exploit the Europeans against their rivals to increase their own power, and it bit them square in the ass as a result.
