I feel as though because of Voltaire's meme status it gets forgotten just how brilliant he was. He was a giant in his term, hail by his contemporaries as undoubtedly one of, if not the, the greatest genius living in all of Europe.

From his pen he brought forth an incredibly body of work both in the sheer amount and in its lively wit & clarity of thought. He was a dramatist, a romantic, a poet, a novelist, a propagandist, an essayist, a historian, a philosopher, a master of conversion, a man of letters and dabbled in the natural sciences.

Undoubtedly one of the most prolific writers and sharpest minds to have ever lived.
