I just found out that my great grandfather left Germany in 1945 and went to the phillipines. Was it common for ordinary Germans to leave or is it possible my great grandpappy is a war criminal? Also share any interesting family history thread
>>

Also the picture is Eric Raeder... obviously not my grandfather
>>
>>2789687
Your great grandpappy was probably a Nazi, but that's kinda cool
>>
>>2789687
Is that him?
What is your stance on your great grandfather?
Also are you from /pol/?
>>
Fact: Filipinos are the most powerful race in the world
>>
>>2789687

There were millions upon millions of military aged males who surrendered at the end of the war and no real feasible way to process them them all. He probably just slipped through the cracks like my my Grandfather did in 1946.

Idk I never met him. My mom says he was really proud of being German and is responsible for everyone in her family having very German names.

I browse pol occasionally and respect some nazi figures and some of the ideals of national socialism (like preserving western art, culture and architecture) but I am catholic and don't appreciate a lot of the content on that board.

Literally can't get any worse
>>
>>2789740
I'm only 12.5 percent German.
I'm certainly not a nazi, just someone who took an unbaised look at history and saw some good and bad in national socialism. Really, I only appreciate The nazis attempt to replace modern """art""" with real European inspired art.

Also what's your problem with Catholics mate?
>>
>>2789729
>like preserving western art, culture and architecture
That's not really nazism, though
>>
>>2789793
I though the nazis made attempts to bring back realism and roman inspired sculpting? I also appreciate Speer's plans for the city of Germania, even if it was totally unrealistic.
>>

>I though the nazis made attempts to bring back realism and roman inspired sculpting?
You mean neoclassicism? It's a good style but a bit overused imo. And the nazi iteration is a bit too "plain, cold and soulless" for my likings

Also Roman sculpting had underlying symbolism, Nazis made idealized bodies as their culture was based around the concept.
>>

He's just a butthurt francophile ignore him
>>
>>2789687
Many of them joined the French Foreign Legion and fought in Vietnam and southeast asia.
>>
>>2791367
If he was a francophile he wouldn't dislike catholics. He's probably an anglo.

The Nazis completely destroyed actually meaningful art like Otto Dix and replaced it with taky, gawdy Roman inspired trash when the Romans were the main adversaries of their ancestors.

Hmmm...
>Music and composers who did not fall into the RMK's definition of "good German music" were deprecated and then banned. The Institute proscribed various great composers of the past, including the Jewish-by-birth composers Mahler, Mendelssohn, and Schoenberg, and also Debussy, who had married a Jew. The music of politically dissident composers such as Alban Berg was also banned. And composers whose music had ever been considered sexually suggestive or savage, such as Hindemith, Stravinsky and the like, were denounced as "degenerate" and banned.

>Otto Dix

wow nothing of value was lost
>>
>>2791470
It's kinda weird he ended up in the Philippines of all places
>>
>>2789779
The Nazi had dubious taste in art.
