Is war the worst thing humans could come up with?
>millions of people die (both civilians and soldiers)
>countries that join the war end up destroyed
>the losing side will be remembered as the bad one for the rest of his history.
Why do humans "like" to war each other? It makes no sense to go and die knowing that you are not doing the right thing.

War's older than Humans.

it has the evolutionary advantage of destroying weaker forms of society, culture, and race. We like having a "tribe" and defeating enemy tribes
Wars weren't as disastrous, global or "total" before the Seven Years War.
Many people like to hammer on about the story of the Iliad being a proto war-drama and showing how disastrous war is, but in reality it was a glorified pirate raid and Homer was used that myth to show how glorious fighting is. He also gives us clear motivations for that war happening (theft of Helen) and make it an honour thing.
Compare that with WWI, which most people fighting it had no idea why the war had started in the first place.

you know even chimps can do genocide. they're just not organized enough to do it on the same scale as us.

Human diplomacy, bureaucracy, and geopolitics is why wars got larger and larger in the West. Not just because "y had more territory and food than x", had it been just those same motivations as that of the chimps, wars would have remained at the most elementary small scale tribal level.

wars got larger because groups that (mostly) don't war internally got larger. that's all there is to it.

War is just the rational way to resolve a conflict, if you kill your enemy then the conflict ends pretty simple logic right there. Humans are anything but peaceful creatures, it our inherent empathy that stops all of us from just going out in the streets and stabbing random people up for fun and empathy makes us resist war until it becomes necessary. Back in our tribal days humans rampantly gored the living shit out of their enemy tribes without a single crap given at all, torturing outsiders was the human way of life even if said outsiders could help you it was more fun to torture them and rape their people.
Even when humans became civilized this instinct to torture shit outside of their tribe continued hence human slavery surviving for so long as slavery was just an excuse for humans to torture outsiders for fun.
