Why did the Romans abandoned Mesopotamia? Mesopotamia was richer than all other provinces.

Wasn't it conquered by the Parthians?

Because supply lines.
Hadrian knew that Trajan was a stupid fuck who had no idea about ruling an empire.
The Roman Empire had a population of 70 million and was defended by an army of 450,000. They didn't have the resources to properly secure Mesopotamia against a resurgent Persia and the emperor knew it.
Mesopotamia has a shit location. Thats why its always been under the thumbs of more powerful neighbours.
The Romans didn't hold on to it because it would be difficult to defend. The possible taxes gained from it wouldn't pay for the armies and fortifications needed to hold it.

The Romans were too overextended as it was. But they should have just abandoned Britain and relocated their British forces in defending Mesopotamia since it was more valuable.
>Mesopotamia
>richer than Egypt
Is this a meme or are you fucking stupid?

Do you actually know nothing about Mesopotamia you dumb fuck? Egypt was important because it was the breadbasket of the Romans, but Mesopotamia and the Levant by proxy were more urbanized, industry heavy, and had artisans and other craftsman up the ass benefiting from the Silk Road trade iwth merchants and middlemen traders. Syria for example is one of Roman's and Byzantine's most economically important provinces.

>industry heavy
That do not really matter unless you are a city state, or you need prebuilt supply lines like a modern state do.
>>2752593
It does matter when you want to farm +10 tax revenue to keep your empire prosperous, dumdum.

Read literally any book about the economy of ancient Egypt and come back you 'tard.
>>2752626
You clearly haven't read or learned anything about Mesopotamia, you mongoloid.
>>2752626
what does ancient egypt have to do with the economy of egypt as a roman province?

Britain was a valuable source of tin for the Romans. It may have been largely redundant but abandoning the island would just cut them off from its resources. At that point they basically just had to live with the place.

I think a big reason was that the british isles were still mysterious and unknown. The prospect of new types of wealth was probably appealing to the romans, especially if you were the only people in the known world to discover/exploit it
