What war films have the most realistic battle scenes?
For instance, World War 2 films that depict accurately the tactics actually used in the war.

Is that even a question?
I'll add to this as I myself want to know this:
What are some pre-gunpowder movies with accurate combat and violence?

Really? I always thought this was a more hollywood take on Stalingrad.
Does anyone know if the opening combat scene in Rome is legit, where they're in those shield wall ranks and take turns falling back?

Enemy at the Gates is more of a documentary than actual movie.
"I regret that I have but one army to lose for my country" is a famous Zhukov quote, and this is exhibited in EatG where it's not important that each soldier gets a rifle, but that they die for their country no matter it be at the hands of the germans or fellow soviets.

Yes, it's legit. Titus Pullo's actions would have gotten him killed immediately but other than that, everything was done right.

Battle of Gaugamela from Oliver Stones Alexander is pretty realistic, and is good overview of the size and scope of ancient battles.

Battle scene wise? Outside the big, large ones, like Gettysburg, Gods and Generals, Waterloo etc, I like Captain Alatriste's depiction of the Battle of Rocroy

The fighting in Ironclad is absolute horseshit but fuck me if it isn't satisfying to watch him cleave that guy in half every time.

That's awesome. It would've been fucking terrifying to fight the Romans.

I think that whole one gun between two soldiers thing is a debunked meme.
As is the Zhukov thing. In fact there was a letter he wrote condemning generals who were not concerned with their men's lives.

Cross of Iron seemed to do a reasonable job.

I remember this time a former SS soldier was butthurt to Spilberg because of that scene that the krauts are behind a tank in a column
