I
I BELIEVE
I BELIEVE THAT HE WILL
I BELIEVE THAT HE WILL WIN!
No way Caesarumpf can beat him.
Actually, Caesar was the "progressive" of the two (he adhered to the 'popular' party), while Pompey was the more conservative politician.

When you think about it, Caesar was the anti-establishment populist guy basically out for himself. He's way more Trump than Hillary, the government shill par excellence.
That said, Pompey was basically a daddy's boy who rekt the established aristocracy but was completely inconsequential once he took power. He then sold out to said aristocrat when the actual talented mold breaker came along.
Drumpft is already pretty close to a Pompey clone. We'll see if the comparison holds in the future.

If anything he's Crassus, an opportunistic, rich asshole who liked to play as a general without really knowing what he was doing

Crassus was actually a bloody damn excellent businessman tho, and was actually a competent general, Carrhae notwitstanding. He also was never top dog.
I'm really not seeing the comparison, other than both being rich.

Exceptional oratory skill obviously

>Chicago school
> I don't know about this Pompey, those Egyptians look like they're up to something fishy
>Nonsense! Look its one of my old soldiers!

He was as much a populares as Caesar. He even camped his army outside Rome when he saw Crassus do the same to put pressure on the Senate through intimidation to make him consul. In 70BC, both men were made consuls. He was also a triumph whore and almost threw his dummy out when it was initially refused. Sulla started to call him great/magnus half in jest because he knew Pompey loved the glory meme.
In the end, he just couldn't compete with Caesar after his 10year gallic campaign and when he saw the plebs rally more behind Caesar than him due to promises of lands to his veterans, only then did he play the MUH BELOVED REPUBLIC card. In reality he was as much a tyrant wannabe as caesar, the only difference between both men is that Caesar won.
