Why did Arab nationalists align themselves with the Soviet Union?

Britain and America had many more Jews and non-Jew sympathizers than in the USSR. Most White Israelis either came from the west, or left Eastern Europe with a low opinion of the Soviet Union.

Arabs never *really* wanted to be aligned with the USSR, they just wanted to flirt with the USSR enough to scare the West into giving them what they wanted.

The reason Nasser specifically aligned himself with the Soviet Union was because he wanted the Suez Canal. First, he tried to buy it from Britain and France, but they refused to sell it to them. Then, the Soviets helped him try to take it. This caused the British and the French to work closer with Israel, because they wanted to use it as a staging point to attack Egypt. Eisenhower said that if the Soviets put troops in Egypt to affect this transition of the canal, he would nuke Moscow. Because of the intervention of Eisenhower, a peace was brokered before the war happened. They let Nasser buy the canal.

Why other Arab leaders (and it pushed Nasser as well) started to support the Soviets was because of the Yom Kippur War and the Western support for Israel during that war.

Interestingly enough, at first glance it should have been that Israel was aligned with the Soviets. The Soviet Union was the first nation to recognize the state of Israel. It is clear that Truman only recognized Israel in order to win certain Jewish and Evangelical votes for his close reelection campaign.

It was never the intention, Nasser arrested and locked up the communists in Egypt, Nasser himself was a self-described Nationalist. Originally JFK courted Nasser, sending him a letter encouraging cooperation, Kennedy would write-

Kennedy's Undersecretary of State Chester Bowles was quoted as saying-

Kennedy would condemn Israel in the UN following the 1962 airstrike against Syria while allowing Egyptian land increases.
Kennedy also supported the Algerian claim of independence, which angered both the French and Israelis.

Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, and with his dearh so died the US government's efforts to gain friendly relations with the Arab nations. LBJ would triple military aid to Israel and would turn a blind eye to land gains made by Israel in 1967, solidifying the Israeli-US relationship while driving the Arab nations further into a pact with the Soviets.

Nasser is just a shittier Mussolini, he got everything he wanted from the UK (minus imperalizing Sudan) and then finally got the best over inflated deal yet where the US offered to pay for his stupid dam in addition to even more bribes and weapons to turn western aligned. Then he threw that away because he wanted to sit on two chairs, invaded Suez despite being already signing a treaty handing it over to him in seven years, and then moved towards the soviets

Decades later the Suez becomes much less valuable from him blockading it and the introduction of pipelines and VLCCs too large for the canal. The entire west and several arab nations hate Egypt, only for them to crawl back for a shittier deal from the US in the form of foreign aid. Oh and they lost permanent face to this day to Israel

France and the UK were Israeli pawns, Nasser promised to pay off the shareholders of the dam, and Nasser was in the right nationalizing it, it was Egyptian territory and only in UK hands due to colonialism. The Israelis were pissed since he cut off their access to it sonthey got the UK and France to do their work for them. The Israelis used French greed to wrangle a nuclear deal out of it as well. In the end the Israelis were using it as a causus belli to invade and gain land
