Teddy Roosevelt called cubism and neo-impressionism alike "the lunatic fringe." Was he right? If not, what makes artists like Picasso so special?
Yes. Picasso is a meme.
Picasso's art is highly expressive, and in fact you don't need to be a pretentious intellectual to feel what his paintings are trying to say. If you see his Guernica you see clearly in all its chaos the suffering and despair of war.
The same can't be said about other modern art styles.

Woah, I didn't know that Teddy Roosevelt was an art critic, TIL
Cubism, specifically Picasso's work is really cool. Picasso was a fantastic painter even at age 14 (when he painted this picture) and because he understood the fundamentals of line, perspective, color, etc at such a high level he could play around with it. In his paintings he's trying to paint a single subject with different angles and perspectives all at once. He's great because he understood the fundamentals of painting and played around with it. He didn't do like a lot of contemporary artists and just shrug his shoulders and throw out everything that came before.
Art was great up untill the 60s, and even some things in the 60s are fine.
After that it has degenerated too much. There are no narratives, there are no focal points and there are no rules.
People actually think this frees art, but it doesn't.

Solid bait
>>2702713
Solid non-argument.
Picasso is inferior to Dali in every possible way.

Tell me how "I was born in the wrong art generation" anything but bait.

Dali was a god among men.

>not liking contemporary art is literally lewronggeneration
kys retard, if everyone was perfectly content with everything in their society art would have never developed.

No because Teddy was a president and not an art critic.

Teddy is a meme president for men's lifestyle blog readers; while cubism is based. Connections can be made between how Futurism, which came out of cubism, and our European ancestors both approached the problem of depicting movement and speed. Realism is a meme.
Somebody post that conspiracy theory again about how Picasso was a shitty painter who passed off his earlier skilled realist work as his own when it was actually his father's.
