You can clearly see that the balance isn't exact per country. In the Global North and large swaths of the Americas Females outnumber males. In the Global South males outnumber females. Polyandry would only be pragmatic in the Global South.

The sex ratio for the whole world is 101 boys to 100 girls,so from a global perspective it's about equal and monogamy is more logical since it's easy to presume 1% of the population wouldn't want to be or couldn't be married for any reason.
