Why do eastern european, southern european and even latin american writers, composers, philosophers, etc ( catholics and orthodox) are usually much better than the anglo-germanic ones (protestants)?
For instance, we can't even say that philosophy really exists in America.
In the anglo or germanic world you have a large number of intellectuals, but most of them are just mediocre people abov the average well organized and well funded.
In more "chaotic" societies you have fewer intellectuals but they create much more geniouses. They are isolated and can't organize themselves, tho.

Unless you discount contemporary composers. 1960's and later music pretty much balances it out. Also, as far as philosophy is concerned, the west has nothing to be ashamed.
