Is it true that Western liberals deliberately enabled fascism to stop Germany and Italy from becoming communist and allying with the USSR?
In Germany's case it'd be socdems to be specific, but yes.
Don't forget Spain. British "neutrality" was a little one-sided.

It's been declassified that the British government funded Mussolini both before and after the war.

Yes, thank god.
Or maybe not, considering how much more conservative ex-soviet block countries are compared to ex-right wing dictatorships.

The British government's official stance was neutral, but it certainly wanted Franco to win, and frequently offered indirect assistance. For example, in the early stages of the war the British closed the Straits of Gibraltar to the Republican navy, but not to the Nationalist navy. This was a huge deal because all of Franco's troops were in Morocco, while all the big ships were in Republican hands. Without perfidious Albion the war could very well have ended there. Instead he calmly ferried his troops to Seville.
A lot of stupid shit has been done because "if we don't the commies will win".

Yes.
Communism was THAT bad.

Did the SDP collude with Nazis to stop the workers from seizing power?
