It's a more fitting term considering that Sweden was the same kingdom then as it is now, never an empire. Relative to Sweden before and after it was a time of "great (regional) power". Of course we were never acting on the same scale as Britain, France or Russia, only an idiot would say that.

- Peter the Great reforms started with attempt to recover Vodskaya pyatina - access to Baltics - that Swedes had stolen 80 years earlier.
- There is still popular saying around: 'lost as a Swede near Poltava'
- There is a Swede demanding Kem' volost from Ivan the Terrible in megapopular Soviet film 'Ivan Vasilevich changing career'
- There are several Swedish towns remaining in Russian Federation such as Vyborg, Kexholm, some of them still with considerable architecture though (fast decaying due to local corruption and laziness)
