How was Matthew a tax collector when his own Gospel clearly shows he couldn't count?
>12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
>13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
>14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
>15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
>16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
>17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
That's actually 13, but ok.

But if the ancients counted inclusively, then you have 15 generations, not 14, for Abraham to David, or David to Babylon, and he's still off.

Wouldn't you be counting David twice in that case?

Well, you only get to 14 from Babylon to Jesus by counting Jechonias twice, once in that list, and once from David to Babylon. Either way, you've got a problem, he literally lists more names for the first two sets than he does for the third.
