Why did Ancient Greece's empire fall? I know it wasn't as big of a fall as the Roman Empire, but what happened to them? I really don't know much about it but I read that it fell apart after Alexander the Great died. Did his generals or politicians or something try to divy up his power and land and fuck the entire Empire up?
Ancient Greece wasn't an empire.

Fair point. Why did they stop being a world power, then?

Yeap most of the Greek city states saw it as an opportunity to get their sovereignty

Because Macedonians created the Hellenistic world, they were mostly Thracian in origin. Also, the Delian League was just a reactionary Empire to posture against Persia.
See the Peloponnese War, which destroyed Athenian Imperial dreams.

Greece wasn't a world-power either. It was a collection of locally warring city states. The story of greece is the story of the rise and fall of the individual city states.

I guess I know less about it than I thought. Thanks, anon.

Ancient Greece wasn't an empire.
Just a bunch of city-states fighting one another.
At some point Phillip II conquered them.
After Alexander the Great died these city-states continued to exist but had lost their glory and power.Eventually the Romans added them to their empire which helped them survive and prosper once again.
