How come the 3rd world still has slavery when slavery was abolished by most of Europe and America 100s of years ago?
Surely it can't still be the fault of the white colonist oppressors?

I think that this scale represents people who are so poor that they are slaves in all but name, and it may count human trafficking/sexual slavery, which is, as you know, illegal. Still the scale is ridiculous, from 0.04 to 0.75. With a few countries above. And Jesus what the fuck is going on in Mauritania?

Because that map has a wide as fuck criteria.
Also kinda leads to people ignoring shit in the lighter colored parts of the map.

Yeah, judging by the eastern Europe coloring (bar Russia), it's mostly human trafficking and sex slaves. Also, Moldova sticks out like a sore thumb.

Abolishing slavery requires empathy.

It was abolished in most of Europe only several decades ago.

slavery in Latin America is voluntary, except for sex slaves
what these organizations call slavery is a family of bolivians working for koreans in a sweatshop, living in a very small place, in conditions considered inhuman by modern people.
these slaves are "freed" by the Police, but almost always it happens that they were there voluntarily, and want to continue working there.
this is what it looks like while being dismantled by cops and tax officials
for mroe pics just google any combination of Trabajo esclavo, Bolivianos, Taller clandestino

It wasn't abolished hundreds of years ago in either Europe or the Americas.
