Thanks to the UK education system I have a very poor knowledge of my nation's history.
Does /his/ have an English history chart? Or can it recommend a good comprehensive starter book?
Britain gets invaded a lot, then it it invades a lot, then it loses everything it invaded, the end.

Try The Plantagenets by Derek Wilson, gives a good overview of 1133-1485 without it going into too much detail. Only complaint I have with it is it makes a few rulers sound worse than they actually were.

Are you sure you didn't just absorb very little and did not pay attention? Are you sure it's the education system? Because you're the first I've seen make such a unique complaint.

Not at all. The decline of education in Britain has been well-documented, especially since the practical abolition of grammar schools and "learning by rote". I have a relatively excellent knowledge of Literature and Philosophy by auto-didacticism, but my knowledge of History has always been poor since I've never cared to teach myself it.
