Why was the '80s such a cultural blackhole? Why did so few big developments in literature, film, music, painting, etc come out of this decade compared to the two on either side?
I look at the 70s as a black hole, the 80s were tubular my man.
The 80's were by no means perfect, but it was far from a black hole. gun to my head I'd say the 90's were devoid of any meaningful culture, but my memory of the decade was hazy.

>a cultural black hole
Compared to what? I think you could argue the contemporary era is much worse. What "pop artists" are going be be remembered 25 years from now?
>advent of personal computers
>VCR
>all the drugs come out but arent super bad yet
>pop culture on overdrive
>no iranian hostages or anything
>soviet union collapses
>NES comes out
>MTV invented
yeah really nothing happening at all there
The 80's were a fucking cultural explosion compared to the 70's, the fuck are you on about.
