considering the whole reason for their attack was the fear of an US invasion to stop their invasion of occupation of European colonies,
But was it a legit threat or where the Jap just paranoid as usual?

yes

No.

I don't know

Can you repeat the question?
>>2611287
America may have been provoked into war by some way as both Germany and Japan didn't like America much. But yes Japan was being paranoid believing America would join the war because of its attack on Europe but Japan attacked America mostly because it was stunting the war effort in China with resource embargoes and also wanted the Philippines.

Not history. Fuck off.

I think it's fair to say that Japan and America were on a collision course that would have broken out into war at some point.
Japan either had to accept its role as a junior partner in an alliance with Britain, or could make a break to become a great power in its own right. However the latter necessarily meant taking over a huge chunk of East/South-East Asia, directly threatening America and European interests in the area, American control over the Phillipines and American strength in the Western Pacific.
Japan chose the latter route, so at some point war would have broken out eventually IMO. America was not that isolationist pre Pearl Harbor, Lend Lease was already underway and ties between (what would become) the Allies were growing.
