Can someone please explain to me why Jesus is the Messiah? The Old Testament is very specific about what the Messiah will do. Jesus didn't rebuild the Temple, he didn't usher in a Messianic Era, and he didn't unite Israel and free the Jews from oppression. Explain this shit.

Isaiah 53 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
53 Who has believed what we have heard?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 For he grew up before him like a young plant,
and like a root out of dry ground;
he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by others;
a man of suffering and acquainted with infirmity;
and as one from whom others hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him of no account.

he fulfilled *some* of the prophecy. in order for him to be the Messiah he had to have fulfilled all of it. God was very specific in the Old Testament.

Because he'll do all that when he comes back, apparently.

jesus was NOT the messiah.
There is no messiah, because the bible isnt true.
Sapristi, how hard is this to understand?

Then he's not the Messiah. God warned about false prophets, that's why in the Old Testament there's such a large list of things the Messiah must fulfill in order to be deemed the Messiah. Jesus did not complete all his tasks but instead gave a rain check saying he'll be back to finish the job. That's how we know he wasn't.

Here come the theists spouting their reddit and hat memes childishly. Predictable.

The Bible contains the mind of God, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers.
Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.

The simplest answer is that early Christians came up with a different interpretation of what mashiach represented. It's also important to note that Second Temple period concepts of mashiach were varied and the idea of a checklist of 'what the mashiach will do' hadn't developed yet.

Cyrus the Great was mashiach, so were the high priests and kings of Israel. It just refers to someone anointed by God.

The temple was Christ body. The temple is our body too. God lives in the true temple, nor the bundle of Stones the Jews worshiped .

>The prophet Isaiah foretold that a conqueror named Cyrus would destroy seemingly impregnable Babylon and subdue Egypt along with most of the rest of the known world. This same man, said Isaiah, would decide to let the Jewish exiles in his territory go free without any payment of ransom (Isaiah 44:28; 45:1; and 45:13). Isaiah made this prophecy 150 years before Cyrus was born, 180 years before Cyrus performed any of these feats (and he did, eventually, perform them all), and 80 years before the Jews were taken into exile.
Or this section of Isaiah dates from the exile.
General problems with 'fulfilled prophecies':
-how do you know when the prophecy dates from?
-later authors, with knowledge of prophecies, can write their account in order to fit the prophecy
This kind of list is only impressive if you already accept the dates in it.

>Jesus didn't rebuild the Temple
The temple was his body.
>he didn't usher in a Messianic Era
He did and we're living in it.
>he didn't unite Israel
He did unite the true Israel.
"For they are not all Israel which are of Israel; neither because they are the seed of Abraham are they all children… but the children of promise are counted for the seed." Romans 9:6-8.
>and free the Jews from oppression
He did.
"For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God. Romans 2:28-29.
You're welcome.

none of that is true. if we are truly living in a Messianic era than why are there still wars?
