Was Tesla really far superior to Edison or is that matter just a Reddit circlejerk
They worked in different fields
The meme is that they were rivals at all. They weren't. Tesla worked for Edison at one time and left on bad terms because he didn't think he was getting enough credit for his work. And that's pretty much the extent of it.

Tesla was a better inventor but that was never the reason Edison was so great. Edison was incredible in how he got so many of his inventions into popular practice so quickly and immediately improved everyone's lives. Tesla invented some pretty neat shit but only a few were immediately useful and life changing.

took 40 years for the british to REinvent the radar
Both were übermenschen of the type that only appears once in a generation and they were contemporaries with each other and a bunch of other legendary figures. That the leading scientists of our age are Dawkins, black science guy and that Japanese dude is pathetic.

No, those are just the scientists who are good at self promotion.

I think it has to do with the fact that there was a lot more low hanging fruit in tech/science back then. now that the bar is so high advancements are a lot more piecemeal and it takes more people to do stuff
Tesla is mostly just a meme. People keep making up bullshit about him inventing a billion of things he never had anything to do with it and that retarded "free energy" conspiracy.
Tesla could redesign Edison's inefficient motor and generators, making an improvement in both service and economy. Edison remarked, "There's fifty thousand dollars in it for you—if you can do it"[8]:54–5 After months of work, Tesla fulfilled the task and inquired about payment. Edison, saying that he was only joking, replied, "Tesla, you don't understand our American humor."[13]:64[39] Tesla immediately resigned.
