Is it possible that satan had a hand in corrupting the Holy Texts, or is it impossible because it's the word of God and his will?
Spirituality seems to be a medicine: surely to be 24/7 medicated and fanatical is the work of the devil?
When the mystics leave society and live alone in monasteries and mountains, is this not a rejection of the life God has given us?

The bible says pretty directly that the world is evil and you shouldn't partake of it as much as possible. Actually enjoying life is distinctly secondary to getting into heaven.
It's no wonder Gnostics extended this into a rejection of the material world completely, the teachings were ripe for that exact interpretation.
