>So, citizen, what do you expect from the new Mussolini government?
>Oh, Signor Mussolini, he is great man, have all our best interests at heart, yes, I think he will lead our great nation with even-handedness and justice! A true man of the people!
>I see. By the way, what is that building?
>That? Oh, is Il Duce's headquarters. Why do you ask?
>You don't think it looks a little... off?

Ironically, it was the Germans that aped Greco-Roman architecture with Neoclassism while Italians decided to go with their own thing instead.

Neo-Futurist and Fascist aesthetics as an intimidating natural ethos and symbol of "evil" didn't come about until AFTER World War II you literal fucking retard when they "lost".

Futurism was a pretty cool movement despite being fairly insane.
The massive exhibition of the fascist revolution (>implying) incorporated some really neat futurist artwork. It's a pity that the regime decided that they should adopt the Nazi's love of kitsch in later years.

Italian Fascism was heavily modern, especially in its drawn works. German National Socialism was the classical, esoteric aesthetic.

italian fascist propaganda from the 1930's looks about the same as Soviet propaganda from the 1960's, minus the heavy use of red, and fetishization of coveralls.

Ancient Germanics barely had architecture. Why did they end up aping the Romans?
>>
What was the deal with futurism and adoration of violence?
>>
>>2563754
>Darth Vader
>Villain.
>>
>>2565689
It was originally a pragmatic response to circumstances: the futurists were intensely nationalistic and wanted the terre irredente that were still under Austro-Hungarian control. As such they wanted Italy to get involved in WWI so they spoke in favour of war.

It was combined into the general themes of perpetual progress and advancement. Technological advancement (which was to be embraced at all times as a means of bettering humanity) was also leading to a situation where survival was less of a struggle. This was dangerous because it meant that the "weak" would be able to survive whereas previously they would have been unable to compete. As such, violence and war became the means of purging humanity of weaker elements but also becoming an aesthetic pursuit in itself; it was on the battlefield that humanity could demonstrate the increasingly powerful technological marvels it was creating. To survive in this new era of warfare (and thus establish "dominion" over the technology) humanity would have to develop more and more advanced technology to the point that humanity and technology are basically fused together and since technological progress is to be prized above everything else, this is a very good thing (Marinetti talks about war being beautiful because "it initiates the dreamt-of metallization of the human body").

He had become corrupted by the dark side and hurt a ton of people with utmost levels of cruelty, the fact that Palpatine was the one who corrupted him and that he redeemed himself at the end of Return doesn't really takes away from the fact that he was a villain.

there are 'people' who think nazi architecture was good? rather than a mixture of overblown, bombastic nonsense mixed with boring pastiche?

mussolini's italy had better architecture than hitler's germany

You answered your own question.
>>
>>2565589
They never could have built it though. Berlin is built upon drained swampland, not ideal for gigantic structures. The Volkshalle would have started to sink into the ground during construction.

That sounds like such a wonderful pholsiphy. I wish it would have a revival somewhere. Id be first in line to teach that outlook to young minds.
>>
>>2566678

it's an incredibly short-sighted and dumb ideology

there's a good reason why it died off with WWI

go read marinetti though, he's fun at least
>>
>>2566678
Since the futurists were the first avant-garde movement, somewhat ironically you see the later avant-garde movements adopting similar principles (although admittedly for different reasons)
>>2566710
It didn't really die off until the end of the 30s when Italian fascism started aping Nazi opinions on degenerate art. It flourished in the 20s as an artistic movement but arguably did sacrifice some ideological aspects in order to bring itself into line with fascist doctrine. Mostly this boiled down to accepting the fact that you can't build a state if you're busy destroying everything that you set-up because you decide that it is outdated and passeist.

But yes, Marinetti's writing are pretty engaging, sort of like Nietzsche's Zarathustra, but now he zooms about in a plane whilst wanking over electricity and blowing things up.

While that building is actually the Fascist headquarters in Rome, the big Mussolini face was temporary - it was election time in 1934. They just had to make everything tacky and over the top like the usual fascist propaganda (muh ancient Roman grandeur)

jonathan meades did a program about italian fascist architecture, to accompany his other shows on the architecture of stalin's russia and of hitler's germany.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_O822pBg_w

whether you agree with his points or not, the architecture is well filmed and it's all quite interesting.

hopefully in another 10 years he'll do one about the architecture of franco's spain.
>>
>>2563483
This building is the logical conclusion to the Greco-Roman style though. It's got the trim elegance of the Italic, the sturdy simplicity of the Doric, all combined with the sleek minimalism of the modern age. Fucking amazing monument honestly.

>The oldest of us is thirty: so we have at least a decade for finishing our work. When we are forty, other younger and stronger men will probably throw us in the wastebasket like useless manuscripts - we want it to happen!
>They will come against us, our successors, will come from far every, from every quarter, dancing to the winged cadence of their first songs, flexing the hooked claws of predators, sniffing doglike at the academy doors the strong odor of our decaying minds, which already will have been promised to the literary catacombs.
>But we won't be there... At last they'll find us - one winter's night - in open country, beneath a sad roof drummed by a monotonous rain. They'll see us crouched beside our trembling airplanes in the act of warming our hands at the poor little blaze that our books of today will give out when they take fire from the flight of our images.
>They'll storm around us, panting with scorn and anguish, and all of them, exasperated by our proud daring, will hurtle to kill us, driven by hatred: the more implacable it is, the more their hearts will be drunk with love and admiration for us.
>Injustice, strong and sane, will break out radiantly in their eyes.
>Art, in fact, can be nothing but violence, cruelty, and injustice.
>The oldest of us it thirty: even so we have already scattered treasures, a thousand treasures of force, love, courage, astuteness, and raw will power; have thrown them impatiently away, with fury, carelessly, unhesitatingly, breathless and unresting... Look at us! We are still untired! Our hearts know no weariness because they are fed with fire, hatred, and speed!... Does that amaze you? It should, because you can never remember having lived! Erect on the summit of the world, once again we hurl our defiance at the stars!
