What determines what a country's diaspora think of their country of origin? For instance, Irish-Americans have a strong (if affected) attachment to Ireland but German-Americans couldn't give two shits about Germany.
>whether that country is romanticised or not
>whether that country is popular or controversial right now
>whether that country is responsible for historical crimes
>whether the diaspora have an identity crisis or not
>whether the diaspora are accepted as full members of their society or not
etc

German-Americans would have been thrown in internment camps if they showed affection for Germany. They would have got the Jap-American treatment.
