How did Sub-Saharan Africa end up becoming overwhelmingly Christian, while India did not? Both were colonised by Christian Europeans
India has a rich religious tradition which spawned Hinduism and Bhuddism, and witdhstood even Islamic invasions, while Africa was just shamanism or animism or whatever.
India had a culture.

Hinduism is a systematic highly structure faith system with sacred texts, and a heigheirchy of God's. And even a unifying God, Brahman.
Hinduism itself absorbed other animist faiths as it spread.
Nothing about Christianity was new to them. They already had Krishna who was God incarnated as man to save humanity.
Meanwhile Africa had very primitive local tribal beliefs. They were pretty much mindblown by the idea of Jesus or Allah
Complex Organized Religions are very good at displacing simple, pagan ones that tell you that a god controls your local lake. They appeal to higher thinking and abstract concepts rather than easily disproven physicality.

Same reason the animist Far East of India became Christian. Pagans don't have a structured belief system
Has it got anything to do with the British model of colonialism being less pushy about cultural and religious stuff than the French, Spanish and Portuguese?
Goa was Portuguese and they have a higher rate of Christian practice than most of the rest of India

The places where Indians became Christian were either through heavy contact with middle eastern trade or where there wasn't really Hinduism but shamanistic/animistic beliefs.

They actually are pretty intricate. It was more the the fact that if you went to schools that 9/10 were missionary run you'd get exposed to Christianity overtime, the "Oh become Christian and you get x negligible benefits but hey at least you are Christian savages now" factor, the whole "everyone's Christian why aren't you" peer pressure. Typical conversion tactics
indigenous beliefs still exist alongside VERY syncretic forms of Christianity/Islam.

you had the exact same missionary run schools in India.
Christians have wormed their way in. I have known a number of excellent Catholic priests from India.
