The Soviet's armies already occupied that territory and they weren't amenable to giving it up just because the West asked. The only way the Soviets would have given it up was for them to be violently removed through total-war, a war that would have undoubtedly cost more lives than the entirely European campaign the US/UK had just completed and had uncertain prospects for success.

Your question is essentially: why did the US not throw itself into a war more terrible than the one they had just finished for the sake of several Eastern European countries whose importance to the US & its interests was slight.
