you're getting ahead of yourself there. What OP is talking about is the extensive support Nazi Germany gave to the Nationalist government in the 1930s. The Germans gave the Chinese munitions and also provided generals to train the Chinese army and help crush the communists. When germany and japan made their alliance this aid then stopped and then you have the Second-Sino Japanese war starting in 1937.

The reason why he included Japan in Anti-cominterne and Tripartite pact was because he hoped they would attack the Soviet Union from behind. Japan only poked Soviet defences in 1938 and 1939, finally deciding it's not worth it and focusing their ambitions elsewhere.

Japan was a regional power with one of the most modern navies in the world and had a reputation for defeating Russia decisively in battle.

China, was barely unified and undergoing a civil war with an army that would have preformed badly in 1914 let alone 1939. Even had it its civil war in a timley fashion (certainly doable) it would have been in no position to assist in the War against Russia even if it had wanted to, likewise there was no way in hell that China would have gone against the Allies whom it depended much more on economically.

Putting your money on Japan was the only reasonable choice at that stage unless for some reason Hitler decided to go to war in the 60s

Well both the Nationalists and the Nazis were anti-communist, so naturally Germany wanted to help China. Chiang Kai-Shek also like fascism and had his own "blue shirts" paramilitary group, among other things. It's also why China has a good relationship with fascist Italy. iirc mussolini outfitted the chinese with aircraft and other weapons.
You also have to realize that the Nazi and Japanese alliance was not inevitable; just as the Italian's pact with Hitler is something we shouldn't take for granted.
