I am looking for information on European round shields from between 6-10th century. The type the early Slavs would use to be more specific.
What type of wood was used? How thick was it? What was the most common shield size at the time?
What was the most common symbol displayed on the shields?

The shields were usually quite well crafted in all of Europe at the time, a lot of them even having a taper to the ridge.
The Trelleborg shield is stated as being 8mm thick at the center hole(boss rim) and skillfully tapered to a 5mm at the outer edge.
Shields from the Anglo-Saxon graves average 7.5 mm thick calculated out of 103 examples(Dickinson and Härke 1992) and that was most likely identical to the eastern European examples.
The issue is that there is not a lot of Eastern European medieval stuff available online on English, so googling it sucks ass.
The average size is quite difficult to calculate, as the dueling shields were smaller and had a greater chance for survival, so they skew the stats quite a bit.
