Asides from a couple ship designs, the Spaniards and proto-brazillians didn't really contribute much to western civilization.
Sure, the allah ackbarred the new world, but that isn't exactly the hallmark of high-civilization. In comparison to France, Italy, Germany, the English or the Dutch, the Spaniards didn't really do much anything in regards to culture or science.
That's right. Not all Meds are equal. Iberians are cultural midgets compared to Italians, who pretty much managed to bypass the "Rise and Fall" cycle of civilizations somehow. They prevented Europe from descending into barbarism through Christendom, the Italian city-states had become the wealthiest and most developed part of Europe since the 12th century and they propelled us into modern era after the Fall of Constantinople. Not to mention the several art movements that started there and the fact that Napoleon was ethnically Italic.
I wonder how the Greeks would've turned out if they hadn't been conquered by Turks though. Byzantine Empire was pretty decent and they contributed a lot during the Renaissance with important scholars that had fled to the Italian city-states because of the Turks.
Stop hating on my proud Moorish cousins.
