Why do so many people not like Napoleon? I think he was a pretty cool guy.
History is written by the winners and he eventually fell after fighting off all of the great powers of europe multiple times in several deffensive wars because of a few key wistakes and the brits exiled him and chose how he would be remembered as even his legacy was a threat to them and the others
He voluntarily the french republican movement and accidentally the french dominant position in Europe.
Because he didn't know when to quit. At his peak he was the most powerful man in history, and he started off as the fourth child of insignificant gentry in recently occupied territory in a country about to go through revolution. Had he retired then, his empire would have dictated world affairs to the present day.
Instead he fucked everything. Then he came back and fucked it again. Then died. It's an uncomfortable reminder of the futility of it all. Napoleon was a far greater man than any of us can aspire to be, and he still wasn't shit in the long run.
