you can't keep a society going if everyone wants to save their wife and kids, so I'm pretty sure I'd better let the royal sentries take them if they need them

the problem is, they already sacrifice the virgins so there aren't as many women around to produce more sacrifices in the coming years - the priests don't seem as interested in performing the holy rituals on grown men, not sure why
