Okay, this is as good a place as any to lay it out. Why is it that discussion seems to rely solely on an attempt to invalidate a random poster's system of beliefs?

I had hoped that - like discussion of history - the emphasis would be on "learning" and become more familiar with Religious doctrine, religious practices, and religious observances around the world.
When I open a religion thread, it's so I can learn more about the religion in question. Why do mormons think Jesus came to America? What's the difference between Presbyterians and Lutherans? Are any new or groundbreaking interepretations of the Quran popular in Islam right now? Why did Calvinists sperg out in the Netherlands? What exactly is the deal with predestination, or "transubstantiation" in communion? What are the earliest documents that give basis to some of those absurd Gnostic entities I keep hearing about?
But I enter a thread and instead of actually making any attempt to learn about each other people instantly jump at each others throats. NO ONE is ever converted because they were "blown the fuck out" on an imageboard, but people DO change their minds upon considering new information, and LEARNING more about their own and other beliefs.
You people are incredibly childish. I don't want to be told what religion will actually save my soul, I just want to know the HISTORY and DOCTRINE of religions, WHY they are what they are and WHO made them that way. Here are examples for both sects: Catholics are accused of being founded by unprecedented support, and prots are accused of creating their church, for the fun of it.

In actuality, Roman Catholics believe that as long as ex cathedra is evident and tradition supports it, that's a person needs to recognize that Catholicism is the true faith. While Protestants think the church has fallen away from the true teaching of God, and want the church return to it, and the only "apostolic tradition" that's reliable is the scriptures itself.

Personally, I'm not opposed to finding common ground with protestants and working to ensure modern governments follow Christian morals and ethics. Unfortunately, protestant denominations are full of differing ideas on morality, so it makes it hard to actually get most of them on the same page, and is even MORE difficult by the fact that they derive morality from their own interpretations of the bible which are often influenced by their personal morality before you add religion into the mix. For example, I know a Lutheran who supports a black genocide because he believes they're a curse people destined to cause strife mentioned in the bible; even though I have a sneaking suspicion that there may be an underlying political agenda there, I can't quite rule it out he didn't read the bible and actually draw that conclusion based on past experiences.

And then there's the problem of cafeteria Catholics, who pick and choose which doctrines of the faith to follow but still call themselves Catholic. Some who believe in same sex marriage and abortion and all that jazz will likely never be on the same page as everyone else in the faith, but stick around thinking they can reform the church from within and that the Vatican simply hasn't caught up to modern times yet. Both of these types of people make it nearly impossible to get Christians as a whole on the same page as each other.

As far as America is considered, my best hope is that, disregarding the above issues, that a new political party is established that's core issues are ones of christian ethics first. Beyond that, my only concerns for the rest of government is the most optimal path is chosen for society as a whole in terms of economics and other issues.

I wanted to actually make a thread where I answered questions on Catholic doctrine without engaging on a "right/wrong" battle with people purely as a sort of fact finding thing for those who were curious, but I don't quite have enough knowledge about every facet of the faith in general to provide 100% correct answers, nor am I quick enough to sort through the catechism fast enough to find them.
