Most of the stuff Europeans received after the fall of Constantinople was poetry and the like. Legal stuff and natural philosophy had already been available in Western Europe for centuries by that time.
It is also noteworthy that the Portuguese had been trying to find a sea-route to India for four or five decades at that point so you cannot really argue it set off colonialism either.
