>have a small percentage of blood from an ancient "civilization"
>We wuz (insert "civilization")
Why do so many people do this?

people who don't have anything interesting going on in their lives and the only thing they have to be proud is their blood.

Desire to belong to a great legacy.
Modern society is cosmopolitan and bland and people are losing a sense of identity and place and thus WE WUZ is an attempt to ground themselves in something and perhaps inspire the desire to do something more than play vidya and smoke weed.
Why do people root for local sports teams?
Why do people group together in fandoms?
Why is (((do people))) encourage collectivism and group identity as long as it's (((profitable)))?

This pretty much sums it up.
You're either not allowed to be proud of being a White American (Even our fucking autnonym isn't even really descriptive) or else you're a racist. You can't be proud of being a Black American because Black Americans aren't allowed to be proud of the things one would WANT to be proud of or else they face violence, ostracism, and marginalization.
So both groups latch onto something innocuous. Black Americans can't be proud of the Harlem Renaissance, so they latch onto Egypt. White Americans can't be proud of our history, so we latch onto Ireland.
