Will a century ever be as epic as the 20th? I feel like the 21st is just gonna be a bunch of alt right and leftypol complaining on a grand scale.

the alt right and leftypol have no influence outside the internet

Who gives a flying fuck about the mass of humanity? The mass of humanity is never ever a signal of the times to come. You need to look at what's happening on the fringes.

It'll probably be dominated by pseudoreligions in the form of fandoms.
After the traditional systems of belonging collapse, people go search for an identity somewhere else.
Fandoms are easily manageable by politicians and profitable for corporations.

Now before you call bullshit, please do visit sites like Tumblr and Deviantart.
The amount of time that people put into creating fanart/fanfiction/porn for some tv show has probably eclipsed all the time spent on all of europe's art up until the 20th century already.
It's not exactly high quality, but the quantity alone is astonishing.

It's quite interesting from an anthropological perspective. Nothing like that has ever happened before. What we're witnessing is a cultural explosion that has already resulted in the formation of dozens of subcultures within less than a decade.

Now that VR/AR is becoming abundant, people are free to replace reality with whatever suits them and gives them a sense of belonging.

I don't really use this website, I accidentally replied to the wrong person.

Even you are basically admitting that the current weather patterns we're experiencing aren't normal. Temperatures will continue to rise and extreme weather will increase in frequency.

Temperatures have risen before, but never this rapidly, or due to human activity.
>>
>>2416976
Population in the western world didn't grow fast enough to explain the boom in the last 20 years.
The internet has radically changed the way humans interact with each other and how they spend their time.
Escapism has become far more accessible than ever before and with the introduction of virtual reality technology, people increasingly choose to ignore reality in favor of a constructed illusion that satisfies their basic desires.

Combine this with the general nihilism of the current times and you'll be lucky if people even leave their house in 30 years.
>>
>>2417070
>Even you are basically admitting that the current weather patterns we're experiencing aren't normal.
It's not normal in the context of people who are accustomed to the weather of the 20th Century.
>Temperatures will continue to rise and extreme weather will increase in frequency.
What are you, a prophet or something? Share your gift of foresight with the rest of us.
>Temperatures have risen before, but never this rapidly
Are you sure? I assume you have proof.
>or due to human activity.
The Reykjavik Volcano released more greenhouse gas than man is estimated to have released in all of history. Krakatoa too.

>>
>Implying the 20th century was better than the 19th
>>
>>2417071
The medium of the internet has enabled the existence of purely virtual communities, often consisting of individuals who are both geographically and socially seperated and merely united under a common subculture.
Those subcultures are fairly fringe at the moment, but with the increasing alienation of western society they will likely become an alternative to participation in society, as they more closely resemble tribal strictures and can (under the guise of roleplay) include religious elements which are becoming more and more unacceptable to display in real society.
>>
>>2417098
>the increasing alienation of western society

>>
The Meme Wars of the Early Internet Age will be grander and more studied than all of the rest of History combined
>>
>>2417086
Have you ever looked at the climate data and projections put out by scientists? It's obvious that global temperatures are warming, and they show no signs of stopping. If anything, it's speeding up.

The climate naturally warms or cools over a period of thousands of years, not a century.

Once the arctic/antarctic ice melts, massive 'bubbles' of methane trapped under permafrost and the oceans are likely to burst, which will very likely lead to a runaway greenhouse effect.

I don't understand how you guys can honestly believe that you know better than thousands of scientists with doctorates/PHD's who have spent their lives studying this subject and collecting data on it.

>The climate naturally warms or cools over a period of thousands of years, not a century.
That's not even true, climate change can and has occurred over a period of centuries and even decades.

Also, the Reykjavik volcanic eruption released more greenhouses than humanity has released in its entire history. A point you conveniently neglected to refute.

It does.

It's the same reason a doctor can prescribe drugs and you can't.

Sorry, but you have to work to get smart.

If you haven't done the work, your opinion isn't worth anything.
>>
>>2417175
>doctors never make mistakes
When a doctor tells me liberal prescription of Oxycontin doesn't have public health ramifications he's fucking wrong, end of story.
>>
>>2417166
By your logic, I'd be an "authoritarian" if I said that a physicist knows more about the subject than an average Joe does.

Whatever, buddy.
>>
>>2417190
if a scientist says the earth is flat and a coal miner says it's round, is the scientist just right because lol he has a degree
>>
>>2417175
Yes, it fucking does. A person who has went to school and spent years receiving an education studying a subject knows more about it than an average schmuck off the street.
>>
>>2417186
>doctors never make mistakes

This is another reason why you aren't smart enough to make decisions.

You aren't good enough at critical thinking to recognize a strawman argument and stop making them.

The doctor is going to make less mistakes than you, which is why you aren't allowed to remove brain tumors and a neurosurgeon is.

The beautiful thing is that you are actually constitutionally incapable of exercising power, because people smarter than you will continue to control you no matter what choices you make.

Hence why you're spewing talking points drawn up by fossil fuel companies and thinking you're fighting the power. Your opinions were bought and paid for a while ago.
>>
>>2417200
That's the most stupid fucking 'argument' I've heard in a long time. You sound like an ignorant fool.
>>
>>2417205
I'm not actually a climate change denier, you were just making a shitty argument
>>
>>2417218
Sorry, but in a specialized society, the opinions of professionals matter more than the opinions of amateurs.

See, it's always fine to get a second opinion from a second professional, but there's a reason you aren't allowed to order a CT scan on your own authority.

You can call it whatever you like, but it's a basic fact of life.

In this case, neither side knows what the hell is happening. Climate change scientists don't conduct actual science and are an affront to the scientific method itself. Either way, the climate change apocalypticism is complete garbage, 100 years from now people will use the climate change alarmists as evidence why science should never become politicized.

Climate change (tm) is unfalsifiable as a concept thus carries little validity desu. Perhaps if you were a little older you would realize that this alarmist bunkum has been going on for decades and actually means very little much in the same fashion that fears of overpopulation has in part driven our birthrates off of a cliff. Before the 1970s the consensus was that Earth was entering a period of global cooling and that trend would continue onward. The issue is that the Climate system we live under is much too unpredictable to make any accurate predictions about long term trends, for example if you look at the hydrosphere water can both act as an accelerant for global warming and cooling. If you real have issue with anthropogenic climate change you should really get behind nuclear power, especially the further development of thorium nuclear power, that stuff is practically utopian in comparison to the rest of our options at this point.

If you look into the alleged 95% consensus on climate change and global warming you'd realize that the sociologist who did the study used extremely poor methodology, as to be expected from someone from that field.
