Has there ever been a historical economic system where employees of any job are paid partially in shares of the company they work for? For instance, an employee's salary might be X amount of dollars and 1000 shares of the company per year.

No, just not from anywhere that such a thing exists. In fact, I had never heard of it before someone had mentioned their father had retired with thousands of shares from a company he worked for in New York. Is that so unbelievable?
Also, I was more curious in the sense of a mandated requirement of stock options from a government level as a whole. The idea that by working for specific company, you assumed partial leadership by owning a very small portion of it.
