Why didn't Britain and America fight more despite having this vast amount of land filled with resources to squabble over?

Britain was busy with fighting France in the early years, and by the time that was over USA was both thriving on its own feet, and firmly allied to the Russian Empire. Attacking them would have set off a global war.
They wanted to but the circumstances were never quite right.

Would Russia be able to do damage to Britain though?

That and neither country had any real interest in going to war after the war of 1812. Neither side had won that war and afterward both states were in such positions that it was better to compromise than to fight a war over what was generally not worth much (Northern Maine, American Columbia, Alaska etc.). The best part out of it is that the series of compromises in the Americas eased tensions between the two states despite and ultimately led to the Great Rapprochement.

The Crimean War was enough of a shock to Britain (despite being victorious) that they went looking for allies to further increase their waning edge over the Russian Steamroller.

Russia preemptively burned their fleet so Britain couldn't sink it for them. How would Russia be able to intervene in a war in America?
>>2389060
The Russian Navy became a pet project of the Tsars after the Crimean War. In fact, Russia built the first ironclad ship. Regardless, even without a Navy, it really didn't matter because it was about perception of Russia rather than the realities of Russia. The primary issue is that Russia was seen hostile threat that was growing by the day and would have to be dealt with eventually, not the reality that Russia was a ragged dog in a relatively weak position trying it's damnedest to nurse itself back to health. Britain could sink the entire Russian navy, but they didn't care. Their major concern was a Russian invasion of India which would likely bankrupt Britain. Russia was a VERY powerful ally to have on paper and it kept any and all European intervention out of the American Civil War.

>Russian invasion of India
Surely they wouldn't have supply lines for that.

through afghanistan (remember pakistan wasnt a thing at this time

They had the supply lines to keep up with Britain during the Great game during this period. Also it's Russia. They don't know what supply lines are and they never really needed them until railroads became the major thing during the late 19th century. It's not like Britain really had the supply lines to stave off a Russian invasion of India either.
