So... the 80-year-old British historian Henry Kamen (probably most famous for his 1998 book "The Spanish Inquisition: A Historical Revision") has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the US on kiddie porn charges. Not exactly what I expected next for his career, to be honest.

What kind of extradition treaty does the US have with Spain? We'd need to look up the indictment itself to find out exactly which charges are being alleged. That can make a big difference in terms of how a foreign country proceeds with a case. They'll move more quickly on big ones like murder and so forth than more complex/questionable cases like "fraud."

holy shit that sucks. he's wrote so many books on spain. there's two on pic related but I've seen about 4 other books on spanish history. he seems have the best range of knowledge on spain because most scholars don't even focus on the late 17th and 18th century spain as he did, not to mention his general works on imperial spain

What seems weird is that the offense allegedly occurred in September of 2014, but the indictment wasn't officialized until almost 30 months later. He wasn't stopped from leaving the US during the investigation, either.
The indictment papers probably have more details, but I'm too lazy to look them up on PACER (an online document system for US federal courts) right now.
