Reading up on my Ancient Near East history, who should I be rooting for?
It seems like the Neo-Assyrians are pretty nutty and violent so they seem like a fun choice.
Israel.
They were pretty much the only good force in a degenerate pagan world, until Christ came along.

It would have been interesting to see what all the people with language isolates such as the Sumerians and Hurro-Urartians would have done had their civilizations endured since these people are probably related to the creators of the earliest Neolithic and Bronze Age technologies. Their civilizations probably weren't strong enough though otherwise they wouldn't have been superseded.

I'm partial to the (Neo-)Assyrians because I enjoy learning about militarist societies.
